President Obama claimed that the Supreme Court had “reversed a century of law to open the floodgates – including foreign corporations – to spend without limit in our elections.” Justice Alito seemed to shake his head and mouth the words “not true.” And well he should. The fact is that the Court overturned a federal ban on independent political expenditures by corporations and unions, and in so doing, it rejected the proposition that the government can decide who gets to speak and can ban some from speaking at all.

Never in U.S. history has a sitting president morphed his campaign team into a tax-exempt nonprofit designed to use its voter databases to ramrod a president’s legislative agenda. Until now.

On Friday, First Lady Michelle Obama said the Obama campaign, officially known as Obama for America, will soon be turned into a 501 (c) 4 social welfare non-profit called Organizing For Action that can raise unlimited donations and will become “the next phase of our movement for change.” Former Obama campaign manager Jim Messina will become the group’s chairman of the board, Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod will be a consultant, and Obama media strategist David Plouffe will join the group once he exits the White House.

According to Politico, the group claims it will disclose its donors and not take money from lobbyists or political action committees (PACs), but will take unlimited money from corporations.

“It’s ironic and puzzling that a grassroots organization with a public interest agenda is going to take unlimited corporate money. It doesn’t square,” said Mary Boyle of Common Cause. “There’s one reason that corporations spends money on politics–they’re looking for something in return.”

In 2008, President Obama refused to take corporate cash to fund his inaugural. In 2012, he reversed that decision, having recently accepted a $250,000 check from ExxonMobil. The fact a sitting president’s former campaign team will be accepting corporate donations, to some, smacks of a double-standard that invites cronyism. Adam Green, co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, blasted the decision:

“They won’t take money from MoveOn, Democracy for America, or Progressive Change Campaign Committee PACs, but will accept million-dollar checks from Bank of America and Goldman Sachs? What’s the principle there? No big bank or corporation will donate million-dollar checks to OFA without the expectation that it will impact which issues they engage on, and that’s very troubling,” Green said.

One of the driving reasons the Obama campaign is turning itself into a tax-exempt non-profit is to maintain the team of tech wizards the campaign assembled to build its massive data mining and targeting apparatus. “No existing group has the technical resources to manage the data,” writes Natalie Jennings of the Washington Post. "If we can take the enthusiasm and passion that people showed throughout the campaign and channel it into the work ahead of us, we will be unstoppable," said Organizing For Action Board Chairman Jim Messina.

By law, 501 (c) 4 non-profits like Organizing For Action do not have to disclose their donors or the amounts donated. In the past, Messina has blasted conservative 501 (c) 4 organizations as shadowy, secret money groups backed by anonymous donors and corporate interests. In a June email, Messina said:

“They have a vested interest in being able to spend millions anonymously to influence our elections—many of the corporations and individuals funding their organizations don’t want their agendas to receive scrutiny from the press or the public We can make sure they don’t get away with hiding these donors—or their agendas. But it’s going to take a lot of us standing up, putting our foot down, and saying ‘Hell no.’”

First Lady Michelle Obama cut a video to promote the Obama’s campaign’s decision to turn itself into a 501 (c) 4 nonprofit and explained why citizens should get involved.

“I often think back to one of my first dates with Barack, all those years ago,” said Mrs. Obama. “Back then, he spoke to me about the world as it is and the world as it should be and our obligation to bridge that divide. The work you’ve done has brought us so much closer to the world as it should be. But we aren’t there yet…So I hope you will join Organizing For Action.”

Mississippi bill would nullify federal laws

JACKSON, Miss. –  Mississippi defied the union during the Civil War and civil rights era, and at least two lawmakers think it is time to do so again.
Republican state Reps. Gary Chism and Jeff Smith, both of Columbus, filed a bill this month to form the Joint Legislative Committee on the Neutralization of Federal Laws.
Chism said Thursday that the tea party-backed measure is a response to President Barack Obama's federal health care overhaul and proposals to curb gun violence.
"Certainly, the Obamacare started this," Chism told The Associated Press, referring to the health care plan, "but then gun show loopholes that the president wanted after Newtown really put an exclamation on that -- that we need to do something to stand up for the Tenth Amendment."
The Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution says powers not specifically reserved for the federal government are reserved for the states.

President Obama’s reelection campaign formally announced its rebirth as “Organizing for Action,” a tax-exempt 501(c)4 on Sunday. With that designation, the group is able to accept unlimited donations and is not required to disclose the identities of those donors, though OFA says they will do so.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House now? He is the leader of the majority party. He and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want. If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to. It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist. If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it's because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan ... If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way. There are no insoluble government problems. Good news, We have a speaker for our meeting.  He is Frank Jack Fiamingo, President of the New Jersey Second Amendment Society.  He was referred to us by Sandy Kennedy, one of the Tea Party Patriots State Coordinators.

His mission is to educate people that the Second Amendment is not about guns, it is about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

He is in demand and we are very lucky to have him.

It is time for you to act.

Forty years ago I went to a car dealership to purchase a new one. The total sales negotiation worked me over through; the trade-in, the interest rate, the monthly cost, and pleasure of a new high powered convertible. I was young and saw my way clear to enjoy the stunning ego trip driving with the top down and the ego attention. One thing that was a stand out in my decision making was that my budget could afford the monthly payment. We are about to see a national negotiating a new Debt Ceiling. The key point of this negotiation is there is no BUDGET.

This has been going on for the better part of the Obama term. Why are the Senate partners in car salesmanship?  They are selling us that the debt does not matter. The monthly or annual debt is on us. Write your Senators and tell them to correct the Federal Spending with a legitimate budget that reduces the spending faced by our children and grandchildren.
