Our country is at risk by career employees who assume authority. The Current FBI Scandal is a prime example of people who as employees look beyond their realm of authority. They felt conditions could be manipulated to suit their wishes. The recent discovery of a Congressional employee leaking information to a NYT's reporter is another example.
The events of the past decades have been reported by leaks that the Press is entitled to make public. We must protect our nation freedom of press.
However when information is made known through exchange of value for knowledge beyond privacy or secrecy or to the defamation of reputations that simply bribery.
News media providing, dinners, tickets, or other accommodations, are bribes. Pure and simple the risk are taken with full knowledge of ethical, possibly criminal. if not at least personal liabilities.
When officer holders or employees decide beyond their authority they too are violating ethics and possibly taking inappropriate authorial.
